Penn State moved up four spots to No. 6 in the latest AP Poll following a Saturday night victory over now No. 23 Auburn.
It was Penn State’s second ranked win of the season after defeating Wisconsin in the season opener.
The Nittany Lions are now the second-highest ranked Big Ten team just behind Iowa at No. 5. The Hawkeyes are set to host Penn State on Oct. 9 in Iowa City. Ohio State slipped in the rankings to No. 10 following a win over Tulsa but at 2-1 on the year with a loss to Oregon in Week 2.
Alabama, Georgia, Oregon and Oklahoma round out the rest of the Top 4 while Big Ten counterparts Wisconsin, Michigan and Michigan State sit at No. 18, 19 and 20, respectively. Penn State already upended the Badgers in Week 1 in Madison, will host Michigan on Nov. 13 and will visit the Spartans on Nov. 27.
Auburn fell just one spot to No. 23 following Saturday night’s loss. Maryland is the only other Big Ten team with recognition in the polling having received 29 points in the poll, good enough to be five spots out of the Top 25.
Penn State hosts Villanova next weekend for a noon kick before getting back into the thick of Big Ten play by hosting Indiana on Oct. 2 ahead of the following week’s meeting against the Hawkeyes in Iowa City.
