Penn State receiver Parker Washington did not travel to the Nittany Lions’ 55-10 win over Rutgers on Saturday afternoon and coach James Franklin said he will have to wait until his weekly Tuesday press conference to provide a public update on Washington’s status moving forward.
“I will have to wait until Tuesday to talk to you about Parker,” Franklin said following the game. “I want to make sure I’m clear with what’s going on and I have not talked to Parker yet. So I’d like to be able to do that first and then I’ll make sure I answer your question on Tuesday.”
An unconfirmed report — which surfaced from a fan account — indicated earlier in the week that Washington had sustained a potentially season-ending injury during practice following the Nittany Lions’ win over Maryland last weekend. A Penn State spokesperson told StateCollege.com on Friday night that it had no comment or anything to confirm regarding Washington’s availability.
Franklin generally does not disclose injury information, but has on occasion announced season-ending injuries or in some cases divulged injury information after conferring with a player prior to making any public announcement. Subsequently, while Franklin did not confirm or deny the injury report, there is no evidence or information to suggest Washington’s absence from Saturday’s game was related to anything other than his health.
Washington had strung together a handful of exceptional performances in the second half of the season and racked up 46 catches for 611 yards and two touchdowns through nine games so far this year.
