The District 5 Little League tournaments have officially started. There are three double-elimination tournaments in Centre County’s District 5, including Minor 11, Minor 10 and the Major Division tournament.
The overall winner of the Major tournament will advance to the Section 4 tournament hosted by PA District 11.
MAJOR DIVISION
UPPER BRACKET
District 5’s Major Division tournament began on June 22, with Bald Eagle Area defeating Four Leaf 7-5. BEA moved on to the next round of the upper bracket.
On Sunday, June 24, four games were played in the upper bracket. Philipsburg-Osceola defeated Moshannon Valley 10-0, BEA defeated Clearfield 3-1, Bellefonte rolled over Penns Valley 19-5 and Big Valley shut out State College 13-0.
On June 28, P-O will host BEA while Bellefonte hosts Big Valley. The winners will face off in the major semifinals on Monday, July 2.
LOWER BRACKET
After falling to BEA in the opening game, Four Leaf hosted Mo Valley on the 26th, the results were not available before the Gazette went to press, but the winner will host Clearfield on the June 28.
While the winner and Clearfield battle it out, State College will host Penns Valley. Clearfield or its opponent will take on the loser between P-O and BEA on Saturday, June 30, while the loser between Bellefonte and Big Valley face the winner of State College and PV.
MINOR DIVISION 11
UPPER BRACKET
The Minor Division 11 tournament began on June 24 with the visiting team from Big Valley took down Bellefonte 11-3.
On June 26, Clearfield hosted P-O, while State College visited Big Valley. The winners of the two games will face off on the 30th to make it to the finals.
LOWER BRACKET
Bellefonte will take on the loser between Clearfield and P-O on June 28 to kick off the lower bracket. The winner of that game will face the loser between Big Valley and State College.
MINOR DIVISION 10
UPPER BRACKET
Due to rain, Four Leaf and BEA had to postpone the opening game of the Minor 10 Division tournament with the score tied at zero in the fourth inning, resuming the next day on June 24, BEA found its bats and took the game from its host, 5-1.
On June 25, Philipsburg-Osceola dominated Mo Valley 14-1, while BEA held on to a nail-biter over the visiting Clearfield, 10-9. Bald Eagle Area will host P-O on June 29.
On the other side of the upper bracket, both Penns Valley and State College blanked their opponents. PV defeated their hosts, Bellefonte, 12-0 while State College rolled over Big Valley 14-0. They will play each other on the 29th, with PV hosting.
LOWER BRACKET
Mo Valley hosted Four Leaf to kick off the lower bracket on Wednesday, June 27, after the Gazette went to press.
The winner of the game will pay a visit to Clearfield on the 29th, while Big Valley hosts Bellefonte.
