McNulty shines for State High boys’ hoops

Senior Ryan McNulty’s 18 points helped State High roll through Cumberland Valley, 71-47, on Jan. 26.

The following night put the Little Lions in unfamiliar territory. The team lost, after rattling off 15 wins to begin its season. State College’s shot at a season of perfection was gone after a 75-66 loss at Reading High School on Jan 27. Princeton commit Drew Friberg led State High in scoring with 23 points in the loss.

Behind McNulty’s game-high 26 points, the Little Lions were able to bounce back with a road win Jan. 30 over Carlisle, 76-71.

State High will travel to Central Dauphin on Friday, Feb. 2, for its next game.

ST. JOSEPH’S CATHOLIC ACADEMY

The Wolves completed their season sweep of conference rival Carson Long after a 62-47 win Jan. 25.

On Jan. 27, Bishop McCourt was too much for the Wolves to handle. St. Joseph’s fell 49-46 at home.

Junior R.J. Marsh helped the Wolves get back into the win column after a 59-42 victory over Grace Prep on Jan. 30. Marsh posted a game-high 17 points.

The Wolves will take on the Rams of Penns Valley on Monday, Feb. 5.

PENNS VALLEY

Rams junior Cameron Shaffer helped lift Penns Valley over the Mounties of Phillipsburg-Osceola on Jan. 26.  Shaffer added 12 points in the 42-26 road win.

Despite sophomore guard Logan Snyder’s 20 points, Penns Valley came up short at Juniata Valley by a score of 56-52 on Jan. 29.
Snyder also added a team-high nine points in a 41-31 loss to Central on Jan. 30.

The Rams will look to take down Huntington on Friday, Feb. 2.

PHILIPSBURG-OSCEOLA

Sophomore Tyler Doyle scored a team-high 18 points in the 58-55 overtime win over Bald Eagle Area on Jan. 24.

Penns Valley was too much for the Mounties on Jan. 26. P-O was led by junior Carson Jones and senior Marcus Wisor’s seven points in the 42-26 loss.

The Mounties fell to Bellefonte on Jan. 30 by a score of 48-39.

Next up for the Mounties is a road test against the Dragons of Central on Friday, Feb. 2.

BALD EAGLE AREA

Sophomore Jaden Jones dropped 20 points in the 69-58 BEA loss at Central on Jan. 26.

Huntingdon then took down BEA, 83-66. Junior Drew Bucha had 15 points in the loss.

BEA will travel to Clearfield on Friday, Feb. 2.

BELLEFONTE

The Red Raiders fell in overtime away from home on Jan. 26. Bellefonte guard Ben McCartney added nine points in the 42-35 loss.

Juniors Nate Tice and Caleb Rockey each posted 13 points on Jan. 29 to propel Bellefonte past Jersey Shore by a score of 55-53 at home.

McCartney was back on top of the scoring column after the sophomore posted a team-high 15 points in the 48-39 victory over P-O on Jan. 30.

The Red Raiders will take on the Golden Eagles of Tyrone on the road on Friday, Feb. 2.
