Red Raiders’ season comes to an end

RALTOONA — The storybook season of the Bellefonte Red Raiders’ football to came to an end Nov. 18 with a 37-3 loss to Selinsgrove in the Class 4A first round of the state playoffs.

Bellefonte entered the contest limping, but not quite hurting. But that changed quickly. In the first quarter, team-inspiring quarterback Dylan Deitrich went down with a collarbone injury and would not return. And not even halfway into the game, running back Dexter Galishaw was assisted off the field with an injury. Stud wideout Cade Fortney was also injured and saw limited action on the field.

Down three important cogs in both the offense and defense, the Red Raiders dismantled in the cold and wet conditions. The team reached the Seals’ red zone just three times, and of them, only scored once on a field goal.

On the other side of the ball, the Bellefonte defense couldn’t handle the passing attack as Selinsgrove gathered 238 yards through the air on 12 completed passes, three of which were touchdowns. The Seals also got a rushing touchdown from the quarterback position.

The Red Raiders finished the season at 10-3. Selinsgrove will next face Bethlehem Catholic in the PIAA Class 4A quarterfinals.
