The State College Little League 12U All Stars rode their offense all the way into the Section 4 Tournament finals, but in the end the SC hitters couldn’t decipher the pitchers from East Pennsboro.
The East Pennsboro hurlers gave up just two runs in the two wins their team recorded over State College.
State College recovered with an 11-4 win over Hollidaysburg that sent it into a rematch with East Pennsboro; but, this time SC would have to win twice to claim the section championship.
The first game was played on July 17, and the outcome was not any better for State College. The all-stars managed just one hit in the game and fell 5-0 as East Pennsboro claimed the section championship and qualified for the Pennsylvania State Tournament.
EP jumped out quickly with three runs in the first inning, added two more in the third and then held on for the victory. Sebastian Rhodes came through with SC’s only hit — a double in the third inning — but that was all the team could manage in the game.
It was only the second loss of the tournament season for State College, but it did end its season while East Pennsboro now moves on to this weekend’s state tournament. The winner there will advance to the regional tournament and have a chance to make it to Williamsport for the World Series.
