Three local paddlers earn top honors in Allentown

ALLENTOWN — Three members of the Mach One Slalom Team from Centre County raced at the Larry March Slalom in Allentown recently and came back with top honors.

Alden Henrie, of Snow Show, was victorious in two classes — K-1 Race Expert and C-1 Expert. His kayak time of 107 seconds was the winning time for the K-1 Expert class and also the fastest time of the day overall. Garet Strouse of Philadelphia took second place in the Kayak Expert class in 118 seconds.

In the K-1 race class, Kevin Todd of Cornel, N.Y., and formerly State College, was the winner in 124 seconds. Dave Kurtz, of State College, finished in third place with a time of 158.6 seconds.

In the K-1 U-12 class, newcomer Owen Showers finished first with a score of 159.8 seconds.

In the canoe competition, Henrie had the best time in the C-1 Expert Class of 117 seconds and it was also the best canoe time of the race. Strouse took second place, again, in 153 seconds.

Showers is also trying out the C-1 class and had a good run of 258 seconds.
