Updated 6:11 a.m. Feb. 9.
State College, Bellefonte Philipsburg and Bald Eagle school districts will operate on delays on Monday, but for different reasons.
State College, Bellefonte and Philipsbug schools will have a two-hour delay because of anticipated sub-zero temperatures in the morning, the district wrote in a message to families.
The National Weather Service has issued a cold weather advisory for Centre County from 10 p.m. Sunday to 9 a.m. Monday, with temperatures as low as -15.
“Very cold temperatures can lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure and lack of proper clothing,” the NWS wrote.
Temperatures are expected to climb to the upper 20s to low 30s by late afternoon, with highs reaching the low 40s on Tuesday, according to AccuWeather
Bald Eagle Area will be on a two-hour delay because of a boil water advisory, the district announced on Sunday. The Milesburg Borough Water Authority issued the advisory on Saturday afternoon following a full system shutdown to repair a leak.
The delay will allow maintenance staff time to cover water fountains and distribute bottled water at Wingate Elementary and Bald Eagle Area High School.
“Bathroom facilities will remain open, but students should NOT drink water from fountains or sinks until further notice,” the district wrote. “Students may bring their own water bottles, and bottled water will be provided at school.”
