Centre County Adds 1 COVID-19 Death, 267 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 18,207 New Positives

Centre County registered one new COVID-19 death and 267 more cases of the virus on Wednesday, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The death is the county’s 306th attributed to COVID-19 and the 17th reported this month. The new cases bring the county’s total to 31,031 (27,838 confirmed and 3,193 probable).

For the third consecutive day, Pennsylvania recorded fewer than 20,000 new cases and saw an increase lower than the seven-day moving average. The 18,207 new positive bring the the commonwealth’s total to 2,506,132. The statewide seven-day average is 22,551 cases.

With 112 new COVID-19 deaths identified by the Pennsylvania death registry, the statewide total is now 38,767.

Hospitalizations

Mount Nittany Medical Center has 46 COVID-19 inpatients, two fewer than on Tuesday, with five in intensive car [-1] and four on ventilators [-1].

The patients range in age from 28 to 96, according to Mount Nittany’s COVID-19 inpatient dashboard. Fourteen are fully vaccinated and 32 are not vaccinated.

Pennsylvania’s COVID-19 hospitalizations decreased for the third time in four days. According to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard 7,017 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized statewide, 171 fewer than on Tuesday, with 1,124 patients in intensive care [+9] and 707 on ventilators [+18].

Prison cases

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, Benner state prison has one active COVID-19 case among inmates, one fewer than was listed on Tuesday, and 18 among staff [-4].

Rockview state prison has 52 active inmate cases [+28] and 48 among staff [-5].

Both facilities are in Benner Township.

At Benner, 1,483 inmates are fully vaccinated, 12 are partially vaccinated and 193 are not vaccinated. Among staff, 306 are fully vaccinated and 322 are not vaccinated.

Rockview has 1,693 inmates who are fully vaccinated, one who is partially vaccinated and 58 who are not vaccinated. Among staff, 342 are fully vaccinated and 375 are not vaccinated.

Transmission level

All 67 counties in Pennsylvania are at the highest level for community transmission of COVID-19 on the Centers for Disease Control scale, according to the latest county-level data update.

Transmission levels are based on positivity rate and cases per 100,000 people for the previous seven days. At the substantial and high levels, CDC guidance recommends all people, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in public indoor settings.

Vaccinations

As of Wednesday morning, 92,254people in Centre County are fully vaccinated, an increase of 29 since the last update on Monday, and 13,772 are partially covered [+16]. Booster doses have been administered to 40,736 county residents [+63].

Among the county’s entire population, 67.6% have received at least one dose, 57.7% are fully vaccinated and 43.9% are fully vaccinated with a booster, according to the CDC. Among adult residents, 72.9% have received at least one dose, 62.1% are fully vaccinated and 46.1% have received a booster.

Statewide, 75% of adults and 65% of the total population are fully vaccinated.

All individuals age 12 and older are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot.
