Centre County Adds 305 COVID-19 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 29,060 New Positives
Centre County reported 305 new COVID-19 cases on Monday to bring its total to 28,734, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Among total cases, 25,974 are confirmed and 2,760 are probable.
It was the county’s fourth largest single-day increase of the pandemic. Four of the county’s five highest single-day case totals have been reported this month.
Pennsylvania added 29,060 COVID-19 positives to increase the statewide total to 2,294,292.
Hospitalizations
Mount Nittany Medical Center has 47 COVID-19 inpatients, one more than on Sunday, with seven in intensive care [+2] and seven on ventilators [+2].
The patients range in age from 12 to 93, according to Mount Nittany’s COVID-19 inpatient dashboard. Twelve are fully vaccinated and 35 are not vaccinated.
For the fifth consecutive day, Pennsylvania hospitals had a record number of COVID-19 inpatients, according to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard. Statewide, 6,891 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 101 more than on Saturday, with 1,078 COVID patients in intensive care [+5] and 656 on ventilators [+4].
COVID-19 hospitalizations across the commonwealth have increased for 15 consecutive days.
Deaths
DOH reported no new deaths attributed to COVID-19 among Centre County residents, keeping the total at 298.
With 21 new COVID-19 deaths identified by the Pennsylvania death registry, Pennsylvania’s total is now 37,686.
Prison cases
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, Benner state prison has two active COVID-19 cases among inmates and 22 among staff.
Rockview state prison has five active inmate cases and 48 among staff.
Both facilities are in Benner Township.
At Benner, 1,498 inmates are fully vaccinated, 12 are partially vaccinated and 190 are not vaccinated. Among staff, 307 are fully vaccinated and 321 are not vaccinated.
Rockview has 1,698 inmates who are fully vaccinated, one who is partially vaccinated and 61 who are not vaccinated. Among staff, 340 are fully vaccinated and 377 are not vaccinated.
Transmission level
All 67 counties in Pennsylvania are at the highest level for community transmission of COVID-19 on the Centers for Disease Control scale, according to the latest county-level data update.
Transmission levels are based on positivity rate and cases per 100,000 people for the previous seven days. At the substantial and high levels, CDC guidance recommends all people, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in public indoor settings.
Vaccinations
DOH did not update vaccination data as of 12:30 p.m. on Monday. As of Sunday morning, 91,690 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated and 13,302 are partially covered. Booster doses have been administered to 38,600 county residents.
Among the county’s entire population, 66.8% have received at least one dose and 57.4% are fully vaccinated, according to the CDC. Among adult residents, 72.2% have received at least one dose and 61.8% are fully vaccinated.
Statewide, 74.6% of adults and 64.5% of the total population are fully vaccinated.
Vaccination appointments through Centre Volunteers in Medicine, Mount Nittany Health and through other pharmacies and providers listed at vaccines.gov.
All individuals age 12 and older are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot.
