Centre County Adds 39 COVID-19 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 3,346

Centre County reported 39 new COVID-19 cases on Friday to bring its total to 12,825, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Pennsylvania added 3,346 cases, bringing its total to 926,336.

The county also had 188 additional negative test results, increasing its total to 60,962. Across Pennsylvania there were 11,489 new negatives for a total of 3,863,935.

DOH reported no new deaths attributed to the virus among Centre County residents for the fifth consecutive day, keeping the county’s total at 208.

With 69 new COVID-19 deaths reported statewide Pennsylvania’s total is now 23,937.

Since Feb. 1, 84 COVID positive patients have been admitted to the medical center, with an average of census of 18 COVID positive inpatients per day, the hospital’s lowest census numbers since mid-November. In January, Mount Nittany had total of 211 COVID admissions, with an average daily census of 41 COVID inpatients.

“While hospitalizations are down, it cannot be stressed enough that we must all continue to consistently follow COVID safety protocols,” Chief Medical Officer Dr. Nirmal Joshi said in a statement. “This includes masking, avoiding large gatherings, social distancing and frequent hand washing.”

According to DOH’s hospital preparedness dashboard, which includes Mount Nittany Medical Center and rehabilitation hospitals, 14 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Centre County, with none in intensive care or on ventilators.

Across Pennsylvania, 1,897 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, including 403 in intensive care and 218 on ventilators.

Nursing and personal care homes in Centre County reported five new COVID-19 cases among residents. A total of 18 long-term care facilities in the county have had a combined 701 resident cases, 146 employee cases and 158 resident deaths.

An estimated 90% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, per a health department calculation.

A total of 23,265 people in Centre County have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, including 8,385 who are fully covered with both required doses, according to health department data.

Among Pennsylvania’s total cases, 797,310 are confirmed and 129,026 are probable. In Centre County, 11,800 are confirmed and 1,025 are probable.
