Centre County Adds 50 COVID-19 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 2,778

Centre County reported 50 new COVID-19 cases on Friday to bring its total to 12,519, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Pennsylvania added 2,778 cases, bringing the statewide total to 908,773.

The county also had 236 additional negative test results, increasing its total to 60,223. Across Pennsylvania there were 7,811 new negatives for a total of 3,807,727.

DOH reported no new deaths attributed to the virus among Centre County residents for the fourth consecutive day, keeping the county’s total at 206.

With 67 new COVID-19 deaths reported statewide on Friday, Pennsylvania’s total is now 23,480.

Mount Nittany Medical Center is treating 14 COVID-19 inpatients, one more than on Thursday. The patients range in age from 19 to 79, a hospital spokesperson said.

According to the health department’s hospital preparedness dashboard, which includes both Mount Nittany and rehabilitation hospitals, 15 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Centre County, with none in intensive care or on ventilators.

So far in February, 66 COVID positive patients have been admitted to Mount Nittany Medical Center, with an average of 19 COVID positive inpatients per day. The hospital is at its lowest COVID inpatient census numbers since mid-November.

“While hospitalizations are down, it cannot be stressed enough that we must all continue to consistently follow COVID safety protocols,” Mount Nittany Health Chief Medical Officer Dr. Nirmal Joshi said in a statement. “This includes masking, avoiding large gatherings, social distancing and frequent hand washing.”

Statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations continue to decline. Across Pennsylvania, 2,061 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, including 441 in intensive care and 266 on ventilators, as of Friday morning.

Nursing and personal care homes in Centre County reported five new COVID-19 case among residents. A total of 17 long-term care facilities in the county have had a combined 688 resident cases, 146 employee cases and 157 resident deaths.

An estimated 88% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, per a health department calculation.

A total of 20,857 people in Centre County have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, including 4,960 who are fully covered with both required doses, according to health department data.

Among Pennsylvania’s total cases, 783,906 are confirmed and 124,867 are probable. In Centre County, 11,572 are confirmed and 947 are probable.
