Centre County Surpasses 10,000 COVID-19 Cases

Centre County has now had more than 10,000 COVID-19 cases since its first was reported on March 20, 2020.

With 31 new positives on Thursday, the county has a total of 10,004, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Pennsylvania added 7,175 new positives, bringing the statewide total to 748,564.

The county also had 121 additional negative test results, increasing its total to 54,036. Across Pennsylvania there were 11,603 new negatives for a total of 3,427,975.

Mount Nittany Medical Center is currently treating 47 COVID-19 inpatients, an increase of three since Wednesday. The patients are between the ages of 18 and 101, according to a hospital spokesperson.

Statewide, 4,980 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, including 1,013 in ICU and 626 on ventilators, as of Thursday morning.

The health department reported four new COVID-19 deaths among Centre County residents to bring the total to 162. Coroner Scott Sayers has confirmed 122 deaths in Centre County, ranging in age from 55 to 104.

With 313 new COVID-19 deaths reported on Thursday, Pennsylvania’s total is now 18,742.

Nursing and personal care homes in Centre County reported one new case and five deaths among residents. A total of 16 long-term care facilities in the county have had a combined 633 resident cases, 133 employee cases and 133 resident deaths. 

An estimated 76% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation.

Among Pennsylvania’s total cases, 661,700 are confirmed and 86,864 are probable. In Centre County, 9,354 are confirmed and 650 are probable.
