Centre Region Events Planned to Celebrate National Bike Month in May

May is National Bike Month, and throughout the Centre Region a variety of solo and virtual events are planned to encourage community members to get out and ride.

New this year is “Push the Pedal,” in which residents can complete 10 or more bike adventures to be entered for a chance to win a $100 gift card to a local bike shop donated by CentreBike or one of four one-day pool passes donated by Centre Region Parks and Recreation.

National Bike to Work Day is May 21 and in the Centre Region it is also Spring Bike Anywhere Friday. Register your ride that day at crcog.net and be entered to win a $50 gift card from Freeze Thaw Cycles.

During May and June, community members can support local restaurants through “Centre County Bike and Munch.” Anyone who rides their bike to an eating establishment in Centre County and makes a purchase can enter to win a gift card to a local bike shop by submitting a selfie with their bike and the receipt to [email protected]. Every visit to a restaurant qualifies for another entry and increases the odds of winning.

“We wanted to make it simple, and most cyclists have already biked to a restaurant and can enter and don’t even realize it,” CentreBike President Matthew Cox said in a news release. “We want cyclists to enter every time they bike to an area eating establishment in Centre County. It is good for the environment, great exercise, and supports our area restaurants.”

The Centre Regional Planning Agency (CRPA), State College, Borough, Ferguson Township, Patton Township, Centre Region Parks and Recreation, Centre Moves, Penn State Transportation Services and CentreBike have partnered for these other Bike Month events as well:

• Bike Scavenger Hunt: Ride your bike to at least four of six locations and snap a photo at the designated spot, then send your favorite to to [email protected] for a chance to win a $50 Weis gift card. 

• Bike Month Bingo: Complete five activities in a row on the bike bingo card and send a photo of the card to [email protected] to be entered for a chance to win one of three $25 gift cards to a local bike shop.

• Bike Lingo Word Search: Complete the word search here, and send a photo of it to [email protected] to be entered for a chance to win a Purple Lizard Map

• Municipal Bike Chats and Virtual Classes: See the Bike Month calendar for virtual classes sessions on biking throughout the Centre Region.
