MILLHEIM — The Inglebean Café is closed to customers and it is unclear if and when it will open again.

On Aug. 16, owner Dennis Alan Whittinghill posted on Instagram that the café, located at 106 E. Main St., will be closed for up to one month.

He later created a GoFundMe account looking to raise funds to keep his “life and business afloat during some tough times.”

He added, “Evil has come into our lives and has caused the Inglebean to close for a month or more.”

Whittinghill said he would use the money to pay employees, bills, rent and legal fees. He is hoping to raise $25,000. He added that if the money is not raised, he would pay the employees from his own accounts.

Whittinghill told The Centre County Gazette that the situation has been caused by a legal matter concerning a former employee.

He said he was going to do everything he could to save the coffee shop, which has grown into a community gathering place over the past few years, even if that means selling it to a new owner.

“I am going to do what is best for the Inglebean,” said Whittinghill. “I do not care about money.”

This story appears in the Aug. 25-31 edition of The Centre County Gazette.
