New Bubble Tea Shops Open in State College

A pair of new shops are now selling bubble teas and other drinks in downtown State College.

At 454 E. College Ave., Teadori offers a lineup of handcrafted boba teas. The shop is in the former location of Cozy Thai Bistro’s sister restaurant, Galanga.

Teadori is open from noon to midnight every day with wifi access and plenty of entertaining board games. Its name comes from a play on words in Japanese, according to manager Atlas Duong.

“The name is based on the word ‘midori.’ It means fresh and green in Japanese, like a new shoot on a plant,” Duong said. “Our teas are fresh and green, so, ‘Teadori.’”

Teadori’s menu includes oolong, jasmine and black teas, as well as more traditional uji matcha, hojicha and genmaicha varieties. The shop also sells fruit slushies and plans to add more treats, including six-ounce cookies with staple flavors of walnut chocolate chip and matcha, as well as other east Asian flavors like hojicha, to a weekly rotation.

“We use high-quality products and fresh fruits in our drinks, not wholesale supplies. So, I hope people can taste the difference,” Duong said.

Through Oct. 31, Teadori is offering a 25%-off deal for new customers.

Möge Tee, meanwhile, has also expanded to downtown State College.

The new shop, located at 216 E. Calder Way, offers bubble teas from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day. Flavors range from fresh fruit to “a super parfait,” bringing prices between about $6 and $9 depending on size and type.

Möge Tee debuted in China in 2012 and has since expanded to nearly 400 stores across Asia, North America and Australia. More than 60 franchises currently operate in the United States.

“We want our ‘New-Style Tea’ to break cultural boundaries and change perceptions about a beverage traditionally consumed by the older generation,” Möge Tee’s website reads.
