Anne Marie Hannon (née Dirr), age 92, passed away surrounded by her loving family on December 28, 2025, at Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College, PA after a brief illness.
Anne Marie was born on April 2, 1933, in Richmond Hill, Queens, New York, to the late Peter Aloysius Dirr and Marie Sabina (Schwenzer) Dirr. She is the eleventh of thirteen children and was predeceased by ten of her siblings. Anne Marie graduated from Our Lady of Wisdom Academy in Ozone Park, NY, in 1951. She attended St. Mary’s Nursing School in Brooklyn, NY.
On May 12, 1956, Anne Marie married William Edward Hannon Sr. (Bill) at St. Benedict Joseph Labre Church in Richmond Hill, Queens, NY. They met at a dance at St. Benedict’s when they fourteen years old. They grew up seven blocks apart on Lefferts Boulevard.
Anne Marie enjoyed bowling. She was an avid golfer, achieving a hole-in-one in that she was very proud of. Anne Marie was also passionate about her duplicate bridge. She earned the distinction of Bronze Life Master. Anne Marie learned the value of hard work from her family and upbringing during the Great Depression. She applied these values throughout her multiple careers including bus driver, switchboard operator at AT&T, customer service at Montgomery Wards and finally manufacturing at IBM.
Anne was deeply proud of her family and made it a priority to keep everyone connected despite the miles that separated them.
