Betty A. (Schaeffer) Burd, 94, of Centre Hall, went to be with her Lord on Friday, November 20, 2020 at Centre Crest Nursing Home in Bellefonte. Born on February 9, 1926, in Spring Mills, she was the daughter of the late Thomas E. and Anna R. (Shunk) Schaeffer. On June 14, 1946, at the Spring Mills Methodist Parsonage, she married the love of her life, Nevin C. Burd, who preceded in her death on September 20, 2013.

Betty was a 1944 graduate of Gregg Township High School. She would clean houses, babysit, and help others around her in any way she could for many years.

Betty was a faithful member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Centre Hall for many years. She enjoyed baking, cooking, and collecting dolls. She and her husband enjoyed quilting together and many of those quits won first prize at the Grange Fair. She attended the Grange Fair every year, from the year she was born, until the day she was no longer able to make the trip to the fair. She liked taking drives throughout Centre Hall and the Penns Valley area, taking back roads, and being amazed at the changes occurring with construction and roadways. Betty had many friends that stuck by her and helped her anytime she needed it, both before and after her move into Centre Crest. The family would like to thank some of those friends, Beverly, Hetty, Vicki, Carole, and Joyce for always being there and making her days bright. Prior to her entering Centre Crest, she could be found sitting on her chair with her trusted canine partner, Jade, snuggled right with her. Her family and friends were everything to her and her grandchildren were her life. Her favorite days were those that she was able to see and visit with her son in-law, Dale, and her two grandsons, Nevin and Josh.

Betty is survived by one son, Charles L. Hook and his wife, Elizabeth, of Liverpool; one son in-law, Dale Wilt Jr. of Spring Mills; one sister, Nancy Woock of Niagara Falls, NY; six grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Along with her husband and parents, Betty was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda K. Wilt, who passed on January 13, 2017; four brothers, Jeremiah, Walter, Melvin, and Bruce; and four sisters, Katherine Aimone, Irene Meyers, Janet Crater, and Algie Bailey.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 from 10-11am at Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, Inc in Centre Hall. Funeral services will follow at 11am with Pastor Dave Downer officiating. Betty will be laid to rest privately next to her husband at Centre County Memorial Park in State College.

Following CDC recommendations, social distancing is encouraged and face coverings will be required at all services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her memory to the Trinity United Church of Christ, PO Box 212, Centre Hall, PA 16828.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, Inc 228 S. Pennsylvania Ave. #579 Centre Hall, PA 16828. An online guest book can be signed or condolences to the family available at www.daughenbaughfuneralhome.com.
