Carol Virginia Jeffries, 78, died August 6, 2025, at her home.
Born October 4, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Charles and Florence Jeffries. She was a 1964 graduate of State College High School and received her B.A. from Penn State in 1968 and her M.L.S. from the University of Pittsburgh in 1969. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, Beta Phi Mu, and Alpha Gamma Delta.
Carol especially enjoyed the variety of her library work over the years, which included public service in adult reference, curator of map and atlas collections, medical reference, and philatelic librarianship. She was a patron of classical music and enjoyed playing the flute and piano.
Raised in State College, Carol was a steadfast Penn State sports fan and an auto racing enthusiast. “C.J.,” as she was known to many, cherished her family and loyal friends. She was a Protestant.
She is survived by a son, Edward C. McIlveen, and his wife, Jill, and their children, David and Lindsey of Brookfield, WI; and a sister, Janet, and her husband, David Frank, of Wexford, PA.
A memorial service will be held on August 23, 2025, at Resurrection Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 1795 W. College Ave., State College. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, followed by a service of remembrance at 12 noon, and a reception afterward.
