Charles Richard Gheen, Sr., 82, of Morrisdale, passed away at home on Thursday, September 10, 2026. Born on December 22, 1943, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Royden and Helen (Kauffman) Gheen. On August 13, 1982, he married his beloved wife, Dolores “Dee” (Hook) Gheen, who survives at home after sharing 44 years of marriage.
Charles was a 1961 graduate of Bellefonte Area High School. After school, he worked alongside his dad as a machinist. He later proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from October 1962 until he was honorably discharged in October 1966. Upon returning home, he embarked on his own business ventures. He owned and operated Gheen’s Store for 28 years and the Woodland Campground for 16 years until his retirement.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by their children, Charles Gheen, Jr. (Jodi) of Snow Shoe, Michael Gheen of Morrisdale, Brian Marcum (Amy) of Beech Creek, and Travis Gheen (Jessica) of West Decatur; nine grandchildren: Coty, Tabatha, Michael Jr., T.J., Jesse, Caili, Randy, Ryan, and Alan, and five great grandchildren.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Douglas Marcum, and a sister, Louise Irvin.
Charles never met a stranger; he loved to strike up a good conversation with just about anyone. His work ethic shined throughout his career. More than anything, he loved being with his family. He will be remembered for the loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather that he was!
A public viewing will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2026, from 2:00 – 5:00 PM, at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte. Funeral services will begin at 5:00 PM, at the funeral home, with Pastor Tim Yates officiating. Military honors will immediately follow at the funeral home. Burial services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
