Charles W. Broderick, 89, of State College passed away peacefully on Monday, June 16, 2025. Born on July 7, 1935, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Alice Broderick. Charles grew up in Buffalo, NY and served in the National Guard. On June 24, 1961 he married Anne Broderick. They moved to New Jersey where they were long-time residents and raised a family.

Charles worked as an engineer at AT&T Bell Labs and affiliates until he retired. He received both a PhD in Electrical Engineering (NYU) and an MBA (Fairleigh Dickinson University) while employed. In Holmdel, NJ Charles served as Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus and a volunteer member of the First Aid Squad. He was involved with his children’s activities and was part of the Bell Labs tennis ladder.

After Charles retired, he and Anne moved to State College, PA to be near their grandchildren. In State College he was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his granddaughters, playing games, the piano, going to the Waffle Shop, and watching their activities.

Charles was always very generous with his time. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Vincent DePaul Society. He volunteered regularly at the St. Vincent DePaul Thrift Shop until recently. He often said the people he worked with at the Thrift Shop were the nicest, most caring people he knew, and he valued their friendship.

Charles was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who cared deeply for his family. He guided his wife through her journey with dementia until the time of her passing.

Charles was predeceased by his brother Michael and sister Mary Alice. He is survived by his daughters, Mary (Somers, NY) and Lisa (Boalsburg); son, Charles (Pismo Beach, CA); his granddaughters, who he adored, Abigail (Maryland) and Sophia La Porta (Boalsburg); and sons-in-law, Stephen Perry (Somers, NY) and Thomas La Porta (Boalsburg).

Visitation will be on Thursday, June 19, 2025, from 9:00 – 10:00 am at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 820 Westerly Pkwy, State College, PA.   A funeral service will immediately follow with Father George Jakopac officiating.
