Christian P. Steele, Sr., 96, of Bellefonte, passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College. Born on January 28, 1927, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late John Lambert and Lydia (Curry) Steele. On September 11, 1952, he married his beloved wife, Helen L. (Dillon) Steele, who preceded him in death on February 25, 2023, after sharing over 70 years of marriage together.
Christian was a 1947 graduate of Bellefonte High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from January 1945 until July 1946, and again in the United States Marine Corps from October 1950 until January 1952, during World War II and the Korean War respectively. After being honorably discharged from the service, he worked as a laborer for Cerro Copper and Brass for 44 years until his retirement. Some years after retiring, he went back to work at Sam’s Club as a door greater. He remained there for another 18 years.
He is survived by his three children, Debra (Roger), Phil (Linda), and Allen (Angela), three grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by two brothers and three sisters; he was the last of his generation.
Funeral services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.
