Daniel “Dan” R. Mills, 71, of Port Matilda, passed away at home on Friday, October 17, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born on August 31, 1954, in Youngstown, Ohio, he was the son of the late George and Ruby (Fink) Mills. On December 17, 1983, he married his beloved wife, Kathy (Ripka) Mills, who survives him at home after sharing nearly 42 years of marriage together.
Dan attended Bellefonte Area High School. After school, he worked in construction and as a carpenter, owning his own business, D R Mills Construction, until his retirement.
In addition to his wife, Kathy, he is survived by their daughters, Nichole Briner, and Betsy Hall (Josh) both of Port Matilda, and four grandchildren, Alexis Hall, Jacob Hall, Cody Briner, and Carly Briner. Also surviving are two brothers, Alan Mills (Jeanne) of Southerland Iowa, and George Mills (Karen) of Port Matilda, and a sister, Rebecca Conley of Port Matilda.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by a son-in-law, Mark Briner.
Dan enjoyed being outside. Whether he was hunting, fishing, or camping, you could almost always catch him outside. He especially enjoyed going salmon fishing in New York. He looked forward to going camping and cooking out with family and friends in their annual Poe Paddy outing. He also loved a good road trip and stopping at the casinos along the way! More than anything, family meant the world to Dan. He treasured the time that he was able to spend with family.
A public viewing will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte. Funeral services and burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
