Donald F. “Don” Rhoads, 83, of Bellefonte, passed away on Thursday, October 28, 2021, at the Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College. Born on December 10, 1937, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Franklin B. and Mary Ellen (Korman) Rhoads. On February 27, 1960, in Bellefonte, he married the love of his life, Constance M. “Connie” Thomas, who survives at home. They celebrated 61years of marriage this year.
Don graduated from Bellefonte High School. After graduation, he enlisted with the Army National Guard. He was employed with Weis Markets in Bellefonte and worked at the meat department as a butcher. He was employed with them for over 35 years.
Don was of the Methodist faith. He enjoyed woodworking and building things, as well as tinkering around the house and in the yard. He especially enjoyed his riding mower and pulling the grandchildren around behind it in a cart. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He especially loved hunting turkeys. He belonged to the National World Turkey Federation and had many turkeys mounted and displayed throughout their home. The thing he loved more than anything was being a father and grandfather. He loved his family very much and was so proud of his grandchildren. He was a great man, husband, father, and grandfather.
Along with his wife, Don is survived by his four children, Donald F. “Butch” Rhoads, II and his wife, Alice, of Bellefonte, Dianna L. “Dee” King and her husband, Jeffrey, of Bellefonte, Dwayne R. “Pooh” Rhoads of Bellefonte, and Denise M. “Shelly” Rhoads of Centre Hall; five grandchildren, Kristine “Krissy” King of Bellefonte, Kyle King of Bellefonte, Tyler Rhoads of Julian, Kayla Rhoads of Lewistown, and Caitlyn Rhoads of Centre Hall; and two sisters, Mary Jane Rhoads of Bellefonte and Carole Nastase of Snow Shoe.
Following Don’s wishes, all services will be private.
