Dorothy Clare Siepmann McHale Chambers, 91, of State College, passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at the Foxdale Village Retirement Community in State College, PA. Born on November 21, 1929, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Clara (Hagen) Siepmann. Dorothy graduated from Peters Township High School in 1947 and earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education in 1951 at the University of Pittsburgh. In German class at Pitt, she met her first husband, Robert J. McHale, and together they raised four children. After his death in 1985, she became reacquainted with Robert E. Chambers at a high school reunion. They were married from 1992 until his death in 2020. Dorothy was employed at the Peters Township School District as an Elementary School Physical Education teacher for over 28 years before retiring in 1992.
Dorothy was a member of the St. Luke Lutheran Church in Centre Hall, PA. She greatly enjoyed singing in the choir, tending her garden, and reading, especially detective novels. She instilled in her children a love for books, sports, and music. Dorothy always attended her children’s plays, sports events, and concerts. She and her children share great memories of attending Pittsburgh Pirates games at Forbes Field and watching the Olympics together. She was a caring, supportive mom who welcomed her children’s friends into her home and was very proud of her children’s accomplishments.
Dorothy is survived by three sons, Brian G. McHale (Esther Gottlieb) of Columbus, OH, Christopher I. McHale of New York, and Kevin R. McHale (Sharon Krinsky-McHale) of Fort Lee, NJ; her daughter, Claire M. Milner (George), of State College, PA; two stepchildren, Robert “Scot” Chambers (Charlene), of Centre Hall, PA, and Susan E. Bellew (Brian), of Rocklin, CA; four grandchildren, Alma Gottlieb-McHale (Elliot Wilson), of Seattle, WA, Lily Gottlieb-McHale (Zak Wall), of Seattle, Hugh Milner of State College, PA, and Alexandra McHale of Atlanta, GA; two step grandchildren, Tia Bellew and Sara Sweger; and one great granddaughter, Ruby.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at 11am at the Reformed and Lutheran Cemetery in Centre Hall with Rev. Rebecca Horn officiating.
