Emily Hobbs Way died April 23, 2026 at Foxdale Village. Emily was born October 19, 1921 the daughter of Brooks and Jessie Quigley Hobbs in Hanover Township, Beaver County, Pennsylvania.
Emily attended a one-room school and graduated from Wells High School in Newell, West Virginia. She is a graduate of Slippery Rock State Teachers College with a Bachelor of Science degree in early childhood education. She taught second grade in Centre Township School, Beaver County.
On August 2, 1947, she married Elwood Way, who preceded her in death on December 31, 2016.
In 1950, she and her husband purchased Way Fruit Farm. Emily assisted her husband in fruit growing and sales, retiring in 1983.
She was a member of State College Friends Meeting, Centre Quarterly Meeting, and Baltimore Yearly Meeting of Maryland. Emily was also a member of the following organizations: Halfmoon Grange, Halfmoon Women’s Christian Temperance Union where she served as Treasurer, Halfmoon Garden Club, and the Centre County Farmer’s Association women’s committee for many years.
Emily is survived by four sons:
David and wife Terry of Elkton, MD, and their son Sean and wife Michelle and their son Andrew of Oxford, PA.
Donald of Warriors Mark, PA, and his daughter Jessica.
Brooks and wife Sharon of Port Matilda, PA, and their daughter Megan and husband Jason Coopey of Port Matilda, PA, and their children Emma, Katie, and Evan; their daughter Sara Way of Holliston, MA and her sons Nico and Luc Haegeli; and their son Benjamin and wife Lauren of Allison Park, PA, and their sons Arthur, Declan, and Liam.
Stanley Way and wife Anne of Cleveland, OH, and their son Edwin Way of Atlanta, GA, their daughter Stephanie Way Hansen and husband David, and their son Marshall of Cleveland, OH.
Three brothers and two sisters preceded her in death – Robert, Craig, and Bruce Hobbs, Helen Boone, and Kathleen Chapman.
A memorial service will be held at the Foxdale Village Auditorium on May 16, 2026 at 10:30am. Burial will be at Friends Cemetery in Halfmoon Township at the convenience of the family.
