Freda W. Cusick, 95, of Unionville, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 11, 2026, at The Village at Penn State. Born on September 7, 1930, near Pine Grove Mills, she was the daughter of the late Charles R. and Rosa Mae (College) Lohr. On August 29, 1959, in State College, she married Francis D. “Dick” Cusick, who preceded her in death on November 7, 1986.
Freda was a 1948 graduate of Bellefonte Area High School. She worked for many years in the accounting department at Mittelman and Co. until her retirement. After retiring, she continued her working career for 18 years at Dr. Doug Collins’ Ortho Maxillo in State College.
A devoted member of Milesburg Presbyterian Church, Freda faithfully served on numerous boards and committees throughout the years. She was also deeply involved with Union Grange #325, where her dedication led her to serve as a Pennsylvania State Grange Representative, as well as a member of the National Grange. Her commitment to the community extended to the Centre County Grange Fair, where she served as payroll secretary, concession secretary, and contributed to many other committees and activities over the years.
Freda was known for her warm hospitality and love of simple pleasures. She was an excellent cook who enjoyed baking, reading, traveling, and spending time socializing with family and friends. One of her favorite pastimes was relaxing on her porch, watching the activity in the community and admiring God’s creation around her.
She is survived by her daughter, Colleen J. Brown and her husband, Greg, of Bellefonte; seven grandchildren, Resa Badger (Daniel), Chad Breon (Jen), Dr. Jared Brown, Joel Breon (Jamie), Jesse Breon, Brooke Strouse (Logan), and Luke Mulfinger (Kristie); and 12 great-grandchildren, Ryley Breon, Noah Badger, Wesley Badger, Regan Breon, Delaney Badger, Piper Breon, Kalvin Mulfinger, Aidan Mulfinger, Nevin Mulfinger, Judah Strouse, Granger Strouse, and Jakob Matis..
In addition to her parents and husband, Freda was preceded in death by her son, Chauncey L. Breon; her daughter, Darlene G. Breon; a grandson Joshua Breon, and her brothers, John Lohr, Charles Lohr, and Elwood Lohr.
A Celebration of Life will be held in September at the Union Grange Building, 200 Chestnut Street, Unionville. The date and time will be announced at a later time. Burial will be private at Meyer Cemetery in Bellefonte.
