George R. “Mike” Uzzell, 89, of Snow Shoe, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 10, 2026, at Juniper Village at Brookline in State College. Born on July 16, 1936, in Snow Shoe, he was the son of the late James G. and Evelyn G. (Turner) Uzzell. On January 7, 1954, in Clarence, Mike married Sidonia A. “Sidney” Koleno, who survives at home. Together they shared more than 72 years of marriage and built a loving family rooted in faith, hard work, and devotion to one another.

Mike was a 1954 graduate of Snow Shoe High School. Throughout his life, he worked for several local businesses before retiring after more than 25 years as a machinist at Cerro. He was a former member of the Snow Shoe Presbyterian Church, where he faithfully served on various boards and committees.

A proud and active member of his community, Mike dedicated much of his life to civic and fraternal organizations. He was a life member of the Snow Shoe Fire Hall and held long-standing memberships with the Philipsburg Elks Lodge, Bellefonte Lodge #268 F.&A.M. for 64 years, the Valley of Altoona A.A.S.R. for 61 years, Jaffa Shrine for 57 years, and the Centre Forest #129 Tall Cedars of Lebanon for more than 50 years. Mike was also a member of the Clarence American Legion, Clarence Moose Lodge, and the Young Democratic Club in Clarence, and served as an auxiliary member of the Snow Shoe VFW.

Mike truly enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He loved spending time at his camp, hunting, socializing with friends at the local clubs, and relaxing on his porch while admiring the yard he cared for so meticulously. Above all else, Mike cherished his family. He treasured every moment spent with them, especially with his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Sidney, Mike is survived by his three children: Thomas H. Uzzell and his wife, Janet, of Burke, VA; Judith Yates and her husband, James, of Centre Hall; and Sandra Ammerman and her husband, Merle, of Snow Shoe. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his brother, Richard “Dick” Uzzell, and his two sisters, Sara “Sally” Cowen and Jane Davidson.

In keeping with Mike’s wishes, all services will be private. He will be laid to rest at Centre County Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mike’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
