H. Richard (Dick) Gates

H. Richard (Dick) Gates, 93, of Howard, PA passed away on April 25, 2021 at Mount Nittany Medical Center.  He was the son of the late Harry and Edna Gates of Nittany.  He graduated from Walker Township High School in 1945.  On May 27, 1955 he married Sylvia A. Gates who preceded him in death.

Dick retired from Piper Aircraft in Lock Haven after 33 years and worked on the B-1 Bombers at Rockwell International in Columbus, OH for two years.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the US Army Air Force.  He received the Army of Occupation Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

Dick loved spending time with his family, hunting, gardening, and cutting firewood.  He also enjoyed his weekly trip to Wert’s Sawmill for coffee hour and fellowship.

He was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife and brothers; Bill Gates and Earl Gates.  He is survived by Brother; Dale (Vickie) Gates and Sisters; Doris Yearick and Shirley Bowmaster.  He leaves behind Daughters; Gail (John) Teti of Centre Hall, Vicki Hardy of Milesburg, Lisa (Scott) Korman of State College, and Jennifer (Glen) Billett of Julian and his son Scott (Missy) Gates of Mechanicsburg; eight grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and nine step-great grandchildren.

Friends and family will be received from 10a.m. to 11a.m. on Friday, April 30th at the Kader-Neff Funeral Home, 135 Main St., Howard, PA.  Service and burial will be held immediately following at the Hublersburg Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Howard Fire Company, 341 Walnut St., Howard, PA 16841 or online at www.howardfire.com.  Online condolences at www.Kader-Neff.com.
