Janet L. Smith, 97, of Orrville, Ohio, formerly of Bellefonte, passed away at home on Wednesday, November 22, 2023. Born on June 2, 1926, in Orviston, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Forrest M. and Florence M. (Young) Emenhizer. On February 2, 1946, she married her beloved husband, Carl E. Smith, Sr., who preceded her in death on February 29, 2016, after sharing over 70 years of marriage together.
Janet attended school at the Bellefonte Academy. She dedicated her life to raising her family and taking care of her home – a selfless job, but one that she was proud to do.
She is survived by a son, Barry E. Smith, Sr. (Wanda) of Seymour, Tennessee, and a daughter, Sherry M. Carns (Tom) of Orrville, Ohio; six grandchildren: Barry Smith, Jr., Angie Smith, Travis Smith, Shawn Carns, Heather Carns, and Ethan Miller, and 12 great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by one son, Carl E. Smith, Jr., on November 1, 2014, and four sisters, Grace Young, Kathleen Bickel, Phyllis Levers, Christine Irvin, and two infant brothers.
Janet was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Bellefonte. She had a good time going out to dinner every now and again, but overall, she preferred to be at home with family. Throughout the years, Janet looked forward to visiting with her sisters, and especially enjoyed taking walks with her husband, Carl.
A public viewing will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2023, from 9:00 – 11:00 AM, at Faith United Methodist Church, 512 Hughes Street, Bellefonte. Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 AM, at the church, with Rev. Andrew Morgan officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.
