M. Jane Slack, of Lamar, went into God’s loving arms on Sunday, January 26th, 2025, at Divine Providence Hospital (The Gatehouse) in Williamsport.  She was 91.  Born October 4th, 1933, in Coburn, Jane was a daughter of the late Paul K. and Mary M. “Braucht” Rachau.  She was a 1951 graduate of the former Gregg Township Vocational School.  On October 6th, 1951, she married Nevin R. Slack who preceded her in death on June 30th, 2008.

In her early years, Jane was a housewife and later worked at Gettig Pharmaceutical in Spring Mills.  She was a faithful member of the Clintondale United Methodist Church where she was active in the church’s card ministry.  She was also involved with the prayer shawl group, which supplied shawls and lap robes to shut-ins, hospitals and nursing homes.  Jane and Nevin were involved with the Nittany Farm Museum and the Nittany Antique Machinery Association.  They also loved to attend public auctions and tractor pulling events.

 Jane is survived by two sons, Louis “Herb” Slack (Lorrie) of Spring Mills and Michael Slack (Gwen) of Millheim; one daughter, Linda Pietzsch (Charles) of Sumter, SC; one brother, Robert W. Rachau (Joyce) of Spring Mills, two sisters-in-law, Ruth Ann Williams (J.R.) of Bellefonte, and Debra Redin (Mike) of Centre Hall, and one brother-in-law, Harold Slack (Christa) of York. 

Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Isaac Slack (Mara) and Elliot Slack (Melanie), Michael Slack (Chris), Michelle Wagner (Ryan), Matthew Bartley (Suzanne), Matt Pietzsch (Jess), Heather Beauchamp (Doug), and Erika Romanski (Frank).

Sixteen great grandchildren, Kristopher Wagner (Shannon), Casper Wagner (Bea White-Ramirez), Jeb Wagner (Lakyn), Griffin and Nora Slack, Madeline Bartley, Colin Bartley (Elizabeth), Dekker and Macy Pietzsch, Chloe and Gabrielle Beauchamp, Amelia and Fredrik Romanski, Preston Slack, Kiera and Leah Kelly and two great-great grandchildren, Kalani and Kyla Kelly.  

In addition to her husband, Jane was preceded in death by one brother, Lawrence D. Rachau and one granddaughter, Tess Schreffler.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 12 noon until 1:00 pm on Friday, January 31st, 2025, at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim.  The funeral will follow at 1:00 pm with Pastor Dan Christopher officiating.  Jane will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery in Millheim.  Contributions in memory of Jane may be given to Steven R. Neff Funeral Home.
