Maryellen Bowen Hill, 67, of Bellefonte, passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at home. She was born on May 6, 1956, in New York City, the daughter of the late John J. and Margaret Bowen.
Maryellen spent her formative years growing up in Olean, NY, and attended Mercyhurst College where she met her beloved husband and best friend, Matthew J. Hill.
She worked for the Williamsport Sun Gazette where she won multiple accolades for her journalistic integrity and talent. Later in life, Maryellen donated her time volunteering for a multitude of charitable organizations in the Bellefonte area. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution.
She is survived by her husband, Matthew; their three children, Matthew Aaron Hill (Heidi), Courtney Elizabeth Burkette, and Valerie Ann Hill Beichner (Christopher); nine grandchildren, Hunter, Cooper, Lincoln, Charlotte, Bradley, Moira, Carter, Lawson and Lydia; her brothers, John Geary Bowen (Arlene) and Charles Thomas Bowen (Mary Beth); as well as her cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John J. and Margaret Bowen.
There will be a public viewing held on Friday, December 1, 2023, from 5-7pm at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte, PA 16823. Mass will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 9:00am, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 134 E. Bishop Street, Bellefonte, with Father Brian Saylor officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery Bellefonte.
