Michael J. “Mike” Johnson, Sr, 50, of Centre Hall, passed away on Monday, April 26, 2021 at the Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born on January 4, 1971 in Fitchburg, MA, he was the son of the late Michael J Leffler and Ruth Ann (Johnson) Runk. On July 16, 1994 in Jersey Shore, he married the love of his life, Michelle D. Crissman, who survives at home.
Mike was a 1990 graduate of Jersey Shore High School and earned an associate degree in electrical from CPI. He enlisted with the United States Army National Guard on April 14, 1989 until his honorable discharge on April 13, 1995, earning the rank of Private First Class. During his time in the service, he was awarded the Army Service Ribbon and qualified Sharpshooter for the M16 Rifle and Expert in Hand Grenade. He then worked for Shop Vac for 19 years as a press set-up and mold puller.
Mike was a member of the Jersey Shore VFW Post #5859 and the American Legion Post #36 in Jersey Shore. He enjoyed spending his time working on vehicles, hunting, and loved fishing. He had a passion for helping others in any way that he could. The time he spent with family and friends was special to him. He was a fun-loving, easy-going, laid-back kind of man. Anyone that knew him would tell you how generous and caring he was.
Along with his wife, Mike is survived by three sons, Michael J. Johnson, Jr and his wife, Hannah, of Loganton, Dakota J. “DJ” Johnson, and Aaron J. Johnson; two grandchildren, Bryson and Nicole Johnson; mother in-law, Kay Leathers of Centre Hall; four brothers, William “Bill” Johnson and his wife, Cynthia, of Spartanburg, SC, Michael A. Leffler and his wife, Stella, of Berwick, Benjamin “Ben” Leffler and his wife, Jenn, of Bethlehem, and Matthew “Matt” Leffler and his wife, Abigail, of Bloomsburg; three sisters, Kathryn Knarr and her husband, Gene, of South Carolina, Elizabeth “Liz” Leffler and her husband, Aaron Hauze, of Pond Hill, and Ann Marie Leffler of Berwick; numerous nieces and nephews; and many special aunts and uncles.
Along with his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his step father, Dennis Runk.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, May 2, 2021 from 11am – 1pm at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, Inc in Centre Hall. Military Funeral Honors will be presented by the Pennsylvania Military Funeral Honors Team at 1pm at the funeral home.
Masks will be required for all those attending the services for Mike and social distancing is encouraged.
