Alois R. “Al” Balash, 70, of Decatur, Georgia passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2015. Al was born in Philipsburg, Pa. on August 4, 1944, the son of the late Andrew R. and Amy Heilhecker Balash.
He was a Custom Service Representative for Georgia Pacific. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Navy. He was of the Catholic faith. Al loved watching sports, especially baseball, football and NASCAR. He also enjoyed reading James Patterson novels, taking daily walks and gardening.
Al is survived by his sister, Katie (Dan) Hahn of Moshannon and his four brothers; John S. Balash of Clarence, Robert A. (Donna) Balash of Pleasant Gap, Stephen C. (Phyllis) Balash of Bellefonte and Richard C. “Wilbur” (Janet) Balash of Clarence. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sisters, Alice Balash and Marie Verbeck and his four brothers, Andrew Balash, William Balash, James Balash and Michael Balash.
Services will be held at the Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home, 201 Spring Street, Milesburg on Friday, May 8, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Ronald Baker officiating. Family and friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday, May 7, 2015 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Burial will be in the Centre County Memorial Park, College Twp., Centre Co., Pa. where military honors will be accorded. Arrangements are under the direction of the Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home, 201 Spring Street, Milesburg, Pa.
