Barry Earl Grove, 62, of Karthaus died Friday, January 19, 2018.
Born October 18, 1955 in Bellefonte, he was the son of Doris Ferne Yingling Grove of Julian, and the late Leonard George Grove. In addition to his mother Doris, he is survived by his step-father, Thomas Knauff of Julian; two brothers, David L. Grove of Bellefonte and Michael R. Grove of Palm City, FL; three sisters, Elizabeth A. Grove of State College, Maria A. Donnelly (Troy) of Pleasant Gap and Rosalie S. Grove of State College; six nieces and nephews, Olivia Jones of Nashville, TN, Will S. and Liam G. Jones of State College, Austin R., Sophia R. and Forrest E. Keene all of State College and many uncles, aunts and cousins.
Barry was a 1974 graduate of Bellefonte Area High School and attended archaeological classes at Penn State. He was a stone mason by trade. Barry was a member of the Mosquito Creek Sportsman Club and the Red Lick Gun Club. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed living off the land, always planting seedlings and making food plots to feed the deer, turkey, birds and bears. His life revolved around nature, family and friends.
Barry was also a collector of Native American arrowheads and donated his historically important personal collection to the State Museum of Pennsylvania in Harrisburg. His generous gift is now used by archaeologists, students and ongoing research programs throughout the state. He found and reported over 300 Pennsylvania archaeological sites to the Anthropology/Archaeology Department at Penn State University.
Visitation will be 6-8 PM, Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral home, 1034 Benner Pike, State College. A time to celebrate Barry’s life will follow at 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment in Centre County Memorial Park will be private and at the convenience of the family.
