Charles M. Troy, 93, formerly of Pleasant Gap, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2010, at The Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg.
Born March 17, 1917, in Port Matilda, he was a son of the late Samuel and Grace Miller Troy. On Oct. 10, 1940, he married Elda Thompson, who preceded him in death in 2003.
He was a graduate of Altoona High School. Before retiring, he was a machinist for Cerro Copper and Brass. He was a member of the Pleasant Gap United Methodist Church and a former member of the Mardorf Methodist Church in Juniata Gap. He was also a member of the Pleasant Gap Fire Company, Bellefonte Masonic Lodge and the Altoona Consistory of the Scottish Rite.
In addition to spending time with his family and friends, he enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, bowling and ushering at Penn State University football games.
Charles is survived by his two daughters, Bonnie Bierly and her husband, Robert, of Holiday Fla., Charlene Lavinia and her husband, Thomas of, Doylestown; his son-in-law, Roger Kirchdoerfer; six grandchildren, Holly Peet, Heidi Brown, Kristin Lewis, Sheri Fedqiw, Troy and Matthew Lavinia; six great grandchildren; Joseph Peet, Cameron Brown, Kaitlyn and Justin Lewis, Alyssa and Ashley Fedqiw. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Kirchdoerfer, a granddaughter, two brothers and two sisters.
Friends will be received Monday July 19, 2010, from 10-11 a.m. at the Pleasant Gap United Methodist Church, 179 S Main St., Pleasant Gap. Funeral services will immediately follow at 11 a.m. at the church with Reverend Carl E. Hill officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant Gap United Methodist Church, 179 S.
