Edna, 95, left this earthly world at 2:05 P.M, March 20, 2014 with Peace, Dignity, and Grace to join her loved ones who had departed before her.
Born Edna Jane Kelley on October 6, 1918 in Worth Twp., Centre Co. to Clifford and Agnes M. Kelley. She was the oldest and only daughter of 5 children.
Edna graduated from Worth Twp. High School in 1936 and went on to graduate from Thompson Institute (a business school) in Harrisburg. There she met and married Evan G. Anderson (the love of her life), who preceded her in death. While in Harrisburg, she gave birth to 2 daughters, Arlene L. Anderson Smith in June of 1939 and Beryle J. Anderson Thomas in November 1946.
Edna returned to Port Matilda in 1947 and worked at the State House Restaurant, then she moved onto the Corner Room in State College where she worked for many years. At this time she held down 2 jobs to provide for her daughters. Her next place of employment was for the Borough of State College as dispatcher of Police, Fire and Ambulance Calls. She also processed all the parking tickets and dealt with the public coming to the front desk. When she retired after 24 years from the Borough she was given the key to the city.
Edna was known as “Mother” to co-workers and many people who’s path she crossed. She was loved by many, especially her Pinocle boys, Chris Dobson and Sam McCartney.
Edna is survived by one daughter, Beryle J. Anderson (B.J.) Thomas, and 1 brother, Randall “R.K.” (Doty) Kelley of La Mesa, California. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Debra Way, Stacey (Bob) Kelley and James Thomas. She is also survived by 5 great grandchildren, Ryan Kelley, Shane Way, Kaitlyn Way, Justin Thomas and Amanda Thomas.
Edna was a member of Black Oak United Methodist Church. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her greatest joy. She loved them dearly.
