Obituary of George Stathes, 81

George Stathes January 18, 1932 September 28, 2013 George Stathes, age 81, of Julian, died Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Centre Crest, Bellefonte. Mr. Stathes was born January 18, 1932, in Megalo Horio, Greece, to the late Konstantinos and Maria Karipi Stathopoulos. On July 3, 1956, he married the former Phoebe L. Wellar, who preceded him in death on December 22, 2009. He was a chef, having worked at The Robin Hood Inn, B.J.'s Countryside Inn, and also at the Waffle Shop. George enjoyed spending time with family and watching his grandchildren in softball, drumline and drag racing. He also loved Penn State pig outs. He was of Greek Orthodox Faith.

Surviving are his three sons, Gus (Maureen) Stathes, John (Pennie) Stathes and Chris (Jeni) Stathes; brothers, Nick Stathes, Paul Stathes and Steve Stathes; sisters, Panagiota Anagnostopoulos and Elaine Kartsakalis; six grandchildren, Christopher (Lisa) Stathes, Brooke (Brad) Varner, Branden (Ashley) Stathes, Brittany (Matt) Fortier, Christina and Alexandra; and five great-grandchildren, Kendall, Matti, Abilene, Andrew, and John Cruze (to be born November, 2013). In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Rina Stathopoulos.

Service will be Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. at the Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home, 201 Spring St., Milesburg, with Pastor Bob Maurer officiating. Family and Friends will be received Monday, September 30, 2013 from 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at 7:00 P.M. there will be a Trisagion Service with Father John Reeves officiating. Visitation will also be from 12:30 P.M. till time of services on Tuesday, October 1, 2013. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Union Twp., Centre Co.
