Helen Bublinec, age 81, passed away November 6, at Eagle Valley Personal Care Home in Milesburg.

She was born June 23, 1928, in Emeigh, Cambria County, the daughter of Jacob Fryer and Harriett (Hoover) Fryer. On June 28, 1947, she married Joseph Bublinec in the Emeigh Methodist Church. Joseph died July 29, 1986.

She was a 1946 graduate of Barnesboro High School where for two years she served as an Attendant in the May Queen Court. She attended high school during World War II, at a time when the country was struggling to support the war effort and the troops overseas. Her teenage years were spent living the hardships and sacrifices of the times, but she always looked back with fond memories of her family working together to support sons and daughters fighting for Freedom in World War II. She was very Patriotic and Loyal to her country and remained so throughout her long life.

In the 1950's, when the coal mines closed in Emeigh, she and her husband followed her other siblings to Ohio to seek jobs. They lived in LaGrange and Amherst for a few years until they moved to Bellefonte, where her parents had a fishing cabin along Spring Creek. They both were employed by Bellefonte Milk Products. Helen later began working at Penn State in Janitorial Services, and eventually, in Dairy Breeding Research, as a Lab Assistant, retiring from there in 1990, after 25 years of service.

After her husband died, Helen said her greatest love was spending time with her friends and acquaintances, attending various meetings, where she held many different offices, and traveling. She traveled to St. Thomas Virgin Islands for her son's wedding, to Hawaii twice, and to many other states to visit family. She satisfied her desire to travel by serving as a Hostess for Fullington Bus Tours.

Helen was a member of the Logan Grange for more than 50 years, the VFW Post 1600, VFW District 22, where she held many offices including President, Chaplin, and Conductress. She chaired the Voice of Democracy at Bellefonte High School, coordinated the distribution of gifts to the children of Scotland School for Veterans' Children, was a member of the American Legion Post 867, The Rebeckah's Lodge, a volunteer for the American Cancer Society, and was selected as Volunteer of the Year by Centre Home Care. For many years, she was a member of the Bellefonte and Milesburg Senior Citizens, holding many offices including President in Milesburg for sixteen years. She was active as Judge of Elections for Benner Township South, and served on election boards for the precinct.

She is survived by her children, daughter, Cynthia Cosio (Dennis) of Zion, her sons, Joseph (Robin), of Bellefonte, and Gregory (Lisa), of Brandon, Florida. She is also survived by the following siblings: Lou Ann Ross (Charles), Patricia Thompson (Ken, deceased), and James Fryer (Betty) all of Ohio. She was preceded in death by her sisters Isabelle Kerr (AI), Betty Henderson (Iver/Lester), an infant sister, Bertha, her brothers Walter and Jacob Jr. Her surviving sisters-in-law are Thelma and Agnes Fryer, also of Ohio.

Her grand children are, Christen Smith (Steve) of Clarence, Shelby Sharp-Ewing (Shawn) of Woodward, Jason Cosio (Suzanne) of Bellefonte, and Nichole Rearick (Michael) of Aaronsburg, two step-grandsons, James Neiding of Ohio, and, Adam Neiding, of Florida, great grandson Wyatt Sharp and step-great grand daughter Alexis Ewing of Woodward, and a loving nephew and niece, Jeffery Henderson (Suzi) of Akron, Ohio, and Judith Stevens of Southbury, Connecticut, as well as many other wonderful nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from noon to 2:00 p. m. Sunday November 8, 2009 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA. A private funeral service for family only, will be held at 2:00 p. m. immediately following the public vistiation. Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park at the convenience of the family.
