James C. Gilliland Jr., 89, of Point View, Williamsburg, formerly of Boalsburg, died Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, peacefully at home with his companion of 20 years, Katrina Waddington, at his side.
He was born in Harris Township, Centre County, a son of the late James C. and Eloise (Lee) Gilliland. Surviving are a daughter, Sharon Stoner and her husband, Bill; a grandson, Bill Stoner and his wife, Mary Lou; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Jane McKivison; a sister-in-law, Betty Gilliland; a niece, Chris Cole; two nephews, Gary and Ken Gilliland; five grand-nephews and three grand-nieces. He was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Burrell; and a brother, Bob Gilliland.
Mr. Gilliland retired after 35 years on the road as a self-employed truck driver and then drove bus for the Fullington Bus and Waddington tours. He attended Yellow Springs Lutheran Church, rural Williamsburg, and was a graduate of Boalsburg High School.
There will be no public viewing; however, friends will be received from 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009, at Yellow Springs Lutheran Church, rural Williamsburg. A memorial service will be at noon Tuesday, at the church, with Pastoral Leader Betty J. Royer officiating. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family. The family prefers memorial donations be given to the American Cancer Society . Arrangements are under the direction of Bolger Funeral Home, Williamsburg.
