James M. “Jim” Cole, 82, of Potters Mills, died unexpectedly, Monday, October 31, 2016, at his residence.

He was born July 17, 1934 in Bradford County, a son of the late Merritt and Cecile Walker Cole.

Jim was raised in the Boalsburg area and was and 1954 Graduate of State College High School. While a senior at State College High, he joined the National Guard, and following graduation he was called to duty, and following basic training, he was assigned to Germany. While in Germany he was a part of the Army Soccer Team who won the championship in 1956.

On March 29, 1958 he married Edna “Lou” Keller who survives at home.

Jim was a charter member of the Pennsylvania Percheron Association where he served as director for six years, serving three years as President. He was a Percheron Horse Association of America member for twenty five plus years. Having a deep interest in antique cars, he was a member of the Antique Automobile of America.

Jim was employed by A & P Grocery in State College for many years, and owned and operated Potter Mills General Store for many years. He and his son Patrick started Cole Transportation in 1984.

Surviving Mr. Cole in addition to his wife is one daughter, Georgiana Archer (Tim) of rural Spring Mills; one son Patrick Cole (Kelli) of rural Spring Mills; five grandchildren, Chelsea Cole, Cameron Cole, Addie Harbaugh, Nikki Harbaugh and Kayla Bracken; a great granddaughter, Callie Cole; one sister Rosella Hess, and one brother John Cole.

In addition to his parents Mr. Cole was preceded in death by one sister Bertha Stoner, and two brothers, Ira and Robert Cole.

Following his wishes there will be no public visitation. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 pm, Thursday, November 3, 2016, at Centre County Memorial Park, 1032 Benner Pike, State College, PA with the Reverend Mark Messner officiating. Burial will follow in Centre County Memorial Park.
