James I. Myers, 62, of Port Matilda, and formerly of Harrisburg, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009 at home. He was born on Oct. 6, 1947, in Harrisburg to the late George L. and Mary E. (Anderson) Myers.

He was a graduate of Bishop McDevitt High School class of 1965. Mr. Myers began his career in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard as a member of Company F (Aviation Maintenance), 728th Maintenance Battalion on Oct. 26, 1966. He was appointed as a Warrant Officer in 1980. CW5 Myers joined the technician work force in Dec. 1972 as a Supply Technician at the New Cumberland Flight Facility and retired with over 30 years of technician service and 40 years of total Military Service.

Mr. Myers awards include: the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal, Reserve Component Achievement Medal with nine oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal with two bronze stars, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with gold hour glass device, the Army Service Ribbon, Pennsylvania Service Ribbon with three silver stars, Pennsylvania 20 Year Service Medal with two silver stars. Mr. Myers is also a member of the Order of St. Michael, presented to individuals in recognition of significant contributions in the promotion of Army Aviation.

He was a lifetime member of both the Palmyra Sportsmen's Assoc., Palmyra and the American Legion Post #245 of State College. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He enjoyed Penn State Football, 50's music, computers, deer hunting, doing auto body work, traveling, being in the mountains, back packing, going to the beach, his cats and most of all being with his family.

Surviving are his wife, Karen S. Weller; a daughter, Tammy Ann Shields Tritt, of Tremont; a sister, Janet M. Killinger, of Harrisburg; a grandson, Zachary James Tritt; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael A. Myers.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009 in the Jesse H. Geigle Funeral Home, 2100 Linglestown Rd, Harrisburg. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Visitations will be from 6pm until 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 18, 2009 and from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, in the funeral home.
