Obituary of Jay S. Knapp, 97

Jay S. Knapp, Sr., 97, of Milesburg, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2017, at Eagle Valley Personal Care Home in Milesburg. Jay was born on September 24, 1920, in Seanor, PA., Somerset Co. a son of the late Russell and Dorothy L. Stover Knapp. On April 16, 1966, he married the former Ethel Torsell who preceded him in death on July 15, 2014.

Jay is survived by his daughter, Patricia M. Nicodemus (John) of Fairfax, VA and his son Jay S. Knapp, Jr. (Sally) of rural Howard. Also surviving are his seven grand children, Lori Maboob (Agnon), Barbara Hunter (Greg) John Nichodemus, Scott Nichodemus, Donald Knapp (Gretchen), Michael Knapp (Misty) and Stephanie MacNamara (Chad) ; his 21 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Jay was a veteran having served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII. Jay was the Time Keeper at Cerro Metal Products before his retirement. He was a member of St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church in Bellefonte, a member of Bellefonte V.F.W. Post #1600, Bellefonte American Legion Post 33, Bellefonte Elks Club 1094.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Knapp.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, October 24, 2017, from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. at The Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home, 201 Spring St., Milesburg with the memorial services to follow at 7 P.M. with Father George Jakopac officiating. Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fort Indiantown Gap, PA at the convenience of the family.
