Jean Faulkner passed away gracefully June 12, 2013, at Centre Crest Nursing Home in Bellefonte. Jean was born March 8, 1928, in Reynoldsville, PA, the daughter of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Swauson Reed.
Preceding her in death were a daughter, Judith Tatman and brother, Kenneth Reed.
In addition to her husband, John of 65 years, she is survived by two sons; Dan Faulkner of Perkasie, PA and Michael Faulkner of Bellefonte. Several grandchildren; Andrew Tatman and his wife Susan, Beth Tatman Thomas and her husband Bret, J.D. Tatman, Katie Faulkner, Amy Faulkner Neidig and her husband Cory, Paden Faulkner and Jared Faulkner; five great grandchildren; Lauren and Lily Kate Tatman, Evan and Haily Thomas and Logan Faulkner.
Jean graduated from Reynoldsville Area High School in 1945 and Franklin School of Science in Philadelphia. After serving an internship she worked as a medical lab technologist at Dubois Hospital.
Jean married John in 1948, and they moved to Bellefonte. She was then employed as a medical lab technologist at Centre Community Hospital in Bellefonte. Next, she was a seamstress who worked out of her home to help raise their children. Jean made draperies, slip covers, other window treatments and helped many with interior design decisions throughout Central PA.
Jean was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Bellefonte for over 60 years, Centre Chapter # 207 of the Eastern Star and past matron of the Bellefonte Chapter. She was a Girl Scout Leader for many years and took the “girls” on extensive trips.
Jean enjoyed living her life interacting with family, friends and through her business acquaintances. Virtually all people she dealt with she looked upon as good people and friends. She also enjoyed camping and waterskiing at the “river”, time spent with her family and friends, both from the US and Canada, at the cottage in Ontario, Canada, as well as traveling with close friends. Jean had an innate ability to understand people and enjoy their company always looking for good in everyone.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, 128 W. Howard St., Bellefonte, PA next Thursday or Friday, and will be announced in Tuesday, June 18th CDT obituary section.
