John William Woodring, 79, was released from his early bonds after many years of living with heart disease and cancer on Thursday, November 22, 2018. John was born October 6, 1939 in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains of Central Pennsylvania. He was the 9th child and 5th son to Howard and Erdie Mae Thompson Woodring. In 1957, John was a member of the first graduating class from Bald Eagle Area High School.

In January 1970 John married Molly Jean Coder in Bellefonte. He is survived by sons Frederick and Grant of San Angelo, Texas and Mark of Roy, Utah, along with two grandsons, one granddaughter, and three great granddaughters. John is also survived by sisters Mary Klinger of State College, Edith Richards of Julian, and Donna Stewart of Bellefonte.

In addition to his parents and wife, John was preceded in death by brothers Harry, Howard, Homer, and James and sisters Ruth, Ethel, Elsie, Esther, as well as two nieces and a nephew.

John spent eighteen years in the Air National Guard and was called to active duty in Germany during the Berlin crisis. He worked in many jobs and positions during his lifetime; restaurants, filling stations, milkman, carpenter of single-family homes, and also on Interstate 80 and the Howard Dam. John also worked as an automobile salesman, and culminated his professional career retiring from Air Traffic Control in 2007.

There will be a public viewing held on Friday, November 30, 2018 from 10-11am at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. at 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte. Funeral services will immediately follow at 11am at the funeral home with Rev. Calvin Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Bellefonte.
