Joseph L. Confer, 78, of Mill Hall, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at the Susque-View Home, Lock Haven.

He was born Nov. 30, 1931, in Howard, a son to the late Walter & Goldie Bates Confer. He married the former Sara Y. Heverly, who survives at home. He retired after 44 years of service with Cerro Metals, Bellefonte where he worked in management. Mr. Confer was a Corporal,in the Service Btry, 424th FA Bn,. U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a life member of V.F.W. Post 8269, Howard; a member & ordained Deacon of Memorial Baptist Church, Staunton, Va. where he served on various committees including chairman of Premises for a number of years. He enjoyed hunting, reconstructing houses & helping others. Mr. Confer was a 1949 graduate of the Howard High School.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Rodney Confer & Christie (Kim) Confer, both of Kansas; one brother, Jerry Confer, of Bellefonte; three sisters, Evon Truckenmiller, of Utah; Betsy Stamatakos, of Arizona, and Virginia Vanemon, of Bellefonte. He was preceded in death by three brothers William, Phillip & James Confer.
