Martha Jane Stoner Poorman, 87, of rural Port Matilda, died Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Mt. Nittany Medical Center in State College.
She was born June 20, 1926 in Potter Township, Centre County, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late John Stoner and Anna Stoner Mulfinger.
On October 20, 1948 she married Doyle E. Poorman who preceded her in death June 27, 2007.
She was a graduate of Bellefonte High School and early in life was employed as a cook at Radio Park Elementary School, and in the Poultry department at Penn State University. In addition to being a homemaker she assisted on the family farm, a role she enjoyed and from which she derived a great deal of satisfaction.
Mrs. Poorman was a member of the Port Matilda Church of God, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, and was a member of the Port Matilda Grange.
She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, church activities, attending and socializing at Grange Fair, going to yard sales and shopping.
Surviving her are two sons, John C. Poorman and his wife Sharon of rural Port Matilda, and Phil M Poorman and his wife Marcia, of Antes Fort; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son Rickey on November 1, 1959.
Friends will be received from 6 – 8 p. m. Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA; and from 10 to 11 am Monday at the funeral home. The funeral service will follow immediately at 11:00 at the funeral home, with the Reverend Rodger Traxler officiating. Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park, State College, PA
