Melvin E. Hoover, 86, of Moshannon, passed away on Monday, April 16, 2012 at Mt. Nittany Medical Center. Born on November 5, 1925, in Pine Glen, he was the son of the late Edward E. & Geneva A. Smith Hoover. On November 1, 1958, in Pine Glen, he married Ruth Lucille Lockhart who survives at home.
Melvin is a 1943 graduate from Snow Shoe High School. He served in the US Navy during WWII. For his years of service, he was awarded the Victory Medal, American Campaign Ribbon, and the Asiatic Pacific Medal. He was a member of the Pine Glen United Methodist Church.
Melvin was employed as a driver/trainer for CPI. In earlier years, he owned and operated his own sawmill and was a truck driver for various companies through out the area. He was the Burnside Township Supervisor for many years.
Melvin, along with his wife, enjoyed camping at the Grange Fair for many years.
Melvin is survived by his wife, five sons; Kevin L. Hoover and his wife, Tammy, of Pleasant Gap, Keith A. Hoover and his wife, Susan, of Pennsylvania Furnace, Kenneth S. Hoover and his wife, Patricia, of Poulsbo, WA, K. Quint Hoover and his wife, Lorie, of Zion, and Kory B. Hoover and his wife, Amy, of Hampton, VA. Also surviving are his two sisters, Ada Page of Bellefonte, and Alice Megs of Winter Haven, FL, 13 grandchildren; Derek, Curtis, Michael, Jessica, Patrick, Alyssa, Brittany, Christian, Jamie, Robin, Lydia, Kortney, and Kerri, and five great grandchildren.
Along with his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by one daughter, Karen A. Gentzler, son; Steven B. Burkholder, three sisters, and one brother.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 from 6-8pm and on Thursday, April 19, 2012 from 10-11am, at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, 106 W. Sycamore St, Snow Shoe, PA. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at 11am at the funeral home with Pastor Catherine W. Dittman officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Askey Cemetery, Snow Shoe Twp.
