Peter C. Piedmont, Jr., 92 of Blanchard, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2012, in Susque-View Nursing Home, Lock Haven. After a long, active life, he suffered from Alzheimer's in his final years; yet he never lost the ability to live in the moment.
Born June 14, 1919 in New Rochelle, New York, he was a son of the late Peter C. and Marie Piedmont. His wife of 60 years, Esther Fae (Weaver) Piedmont, died on December 23, 2001. Pete was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Surviving are his three children, two daughters; Esther Kramer (William) of Flemington, Mary Richner (Jerry) of WIlliamsport, and a son, Peter Piedmont (Linda) of Rochester, New York; seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; two sisters, Grace DiNapoli and Mary Piedmont of New York.
He was a member of the Blanchard Church of Christ, where he was a Sunday School secretary for many years and a church deacon, the Beech Creek American Legion, and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). Pete served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a 1st Sergeant with the 337th infantry regiment, 85th infantry division. A decorated veteran, he received numerous campaign medals and a Purple Heart with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster for wounds in action, while fighting in Northern Africa and the European theater of Operations.
Pete retired in 1984 from Piper Aircraft Corporation after 30 years of employment, many years as leadman in the wing assembly department. Prevously he worked at the Orviston brickyard and the Beech Creek General Refractories brickyard. He enjoyed following the Giants and Yankees baseball and played on local baseball teams during his early work life. In his later years, he liked to bowl, play golf, and enjoyed watching sports.
He enjoyed family time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including traveling, playing cards, and board games, puzzles and watching them participate in sports and other activities. Pete will be sadly missed by those who knew him, especially his family.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 15, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Kader-Neff Funeral Home, 135 W. Main Street, Howard with the Rev. Russel J. Moldovan officiating. Interment will be in Romola Christian Cemetery, Curtin Twp., Pa. Family and friends will be received in the hour prior to the service.
