Richard E. Hoffman of Boalsburg passed away Tuesday morning at Mt. Nittany Medical Center with his partner, Mary Jane Johnson by his side.

Rick graduated from Altoona High School in 1973 and worked in the wholesale plumbing, heating and air conditioning industry for 25 years. During retirement he took a part time position with Penn State Universities Guest Services at the Penn Stater. He worked with a wonderful team of people who all became good friends that supported him through his accident in May of 2010 by sending him many cards, gifts and most of all prayers while at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital in Philadelphia. Upon returning home from the hospital, they continued with wonderful surprises and many visits. Rick cherished their friendship and was so hoping to return to work one day.

Rick and Mary Jane loved to travel meeting through Collegiate Athletic Travel many years ago. After attending numerous Fiesta Bowls in Arizona they formed a love of the southwest, especially Scottsdale and spent winter months there where Rick played golf almost every day, which was his passion, and always looked forward to attending the Phoenix Open. They would then travel to Punta Gorda, Florida where Rick would play golf with a dear friend, Kevin Brown, then on to Fort Pierce, Florida to play with his brother John. Rick's winter golf ended playing with a group of friends at a variety of courses throughout the south. Rick was a member of the Free and Accepted Mason Lodge 281 and Jaffa Shrine, Altoona, Pa. and BPOE Lodge #1600 of Boalsburg, Pa.

Rick is preceded in death by his mother, Velda M, in April of 2012.

He is survived by his partner, Mary Jane of 24 years; his father, Richard C. Hoffman of Altoona; two brothers, John N. Hoffman and his wife, Teresa, of Ft Pierce, FL. and Douglas J. Hoffman and his wife, Tracy, of Altoona; one nephew, Cody "Jack" and two nieces, Chelsea “Hazel” and Charley “Chippy” who he dearly loved and was so proud of, of Altoona. He is also survived by special aunts and uncles and many cousins, with one cousin in particular who called him every day.
